Michelle Conlin for Selectman

My name is Michelle Conlin, and I am running for an open seat on Shrewsbury's Board of Selectmen in the May 3rd Annual Town Election.

I am a community advocate and volunteer, having led projects for the town's schools, public safety, and social services. I have served as a Town Meeting Member since 2018, and recently served as Campaign Chairperson of the ballot committee that successfully advocated for the passage of an operational override to ensure appropriate funding for Shrewsbury’s municipal and education budgets for years to come. I serve on the Board of Directors to Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, and have been a Beal School Council member since 2017 and PTO President at Parker Road and then Beal School since 2015.

I am running for Selectman because I am passionate about ensuring that Shrewsbury remains a place where people can live, raise families, and retire happily. I promise to be a leader residents can rely on to provide honest and open communication, transparent decision making, and to value the needs and perspectives of all in our community.

If elected, my priorities will be:

  • Government that is transparent, open, and accessible. Clear communication is key for residents to be able to have trust in government, and for government to be able to address resident concerns.

  • Compassionate services. I will fight for tax relief for seniors, and to better support those who chose to live in Shrewsbury in their retirement. We must also modernize our town’s social services to meet contemporary needs for all in our community.

  • Growing our town’s economic base. We must identify opportunities for responsible, sustainable development, and remove roadblocks for small businesses to thrive in Shrewsbury.

  • Improving our infrastructure. It is critical that we invest in our water resources, roads, parks, trails, and open space, and reduce our town’s carbon footprint. These are essential to supporting resident needs, protecting our natural resources, and preparing Shrewsbury for the future.

  • Supporting strong public schools. Working on behalf of Shrewsbury schools facilitated my involvement in our town; our schools are critical to preparing our children for an uncertain future, and to maintaining the high quality of life that we enjoy.

I will make certain that Shrewsbury continues to maintain and improve municipal and educational services, with careful long-term planning so that the cost to the taxpayer remains low. I will work to ensure that Shrewsbury residents have access to diverse and affordable housing, robust and reliable services, and diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, while preserving and honoring the history of our community that made it the place we all want to live today. I am committed to collaborating with our town boards, commissions, and residents to maintain and improve our town services so all residents have access to all that Shrewsbury has to offer.

I am asking for your support in this election- this is a contested race, and your support makes this campaign possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly; I can be reached by phone at 617-224-3777 or by email at mlkconlin@gmail.com.

I love our community, and I promise to work hard every day for this town and for every one of you. I hope to earn your vote on May 3rd!

With gratitude,

Michelle Conlin
